  • Rachel Riley says she will stop supporting Man United if Mason Greenwood returns
  • He has been suspended following allegations of attempted rape, assault and coercive control
  • Charges were dropped in February, but a return would still be controversial

Rachel Riley has stated she will turn her back on Manchester United if they welcome back Mason Greenwood.

The 21-year-old forward has not played for the Premier League giants since his arrest in January 2022 for attempted rape, assault and coercion.

Those charges were dropped in February, although he remains suspended by United pending the outcome of an internal investigation.

The club’s final decision has yet to be made public, but Greenwood’s reintegration into the first team remains an option, which would be highly controversial given the circumstances of the matter.

And outspoken Red Devils fan Riley tweeted to her 684,000 followers, saying: ‘I can’t support United if Greenwood stays at the club.

‘For example, when it comes to VAWG (Violence against Women and Girls), less than 1 percent of the rapes reported to the police lead to a conviction.

We’ve all seen and heard enough. Pretending this is okay would be a big part of the problem.

“It would be devastating for my club to contribute to a culture that sweeps this under the carpet and sends a message to offenders everywhere that you can continue to do what you want without consequences.

“I really hope they do the right thing.”

The Manchester United women’s side have reportedly expressed concern over Greenwood’s return to the club’s Carrington training ground.

The attacker has only trained and is still being paid his full salary of £75,000 a week.

Greenwood was due to go on trial in November, but prosecutors dropped the case in February, citing the withdrawal of key witnesses.”

Former Strictly Come Dancing contestant Riley responded to a tweet from another female United fan Em, who said she would “walk away from my club” if Greenwood came back.

She had previously responded to a tweet criticizing shoe giant Adidas for failing to drop Greenwood.

The post read: “Adidas response to video of (West Ham player) Kurt Zouma kicking his cat: “We can confirm that Kurt Zouma is no longer an Adidas contracted athlete.”

Adidas response to audio of Greenwood raping his partner: “Adidas plays no role in decisions made regarding any member of the team at the club.”

The 37-year-old presenter responded: “This goes without saying.”
