A Manchester United chief has broken the silence on Mason Greenwood’s future at Old Trafford.
Greenwood, who has not played for the Red Devils since he was arrested in January 2022 for attempted rape, assault and coercion, was withdrawn in February and now awaits his fate in football.
The Premier League club remained silent on the matter for several months as they underwent their own investigation.
But now United’s chief operating officer, Collette Roche, has finally opened up about the five-month internal investigation.
She said The athletic“We’ve done a very detailed and thorough internal investigation and we’ve asked as many people as possible what happened and are trying to understand it beyond the original police investigation.

‘You would expect us to talk to people who are relevant in terms of stakeholder groups.
And now all we have to do is make the decision. That decision is definitely one that rests with us.”
Manchester United have not yet announced whether or not the attacker will return this season, even though the new season started last weekend.
As Mail Sport reported earlier this month, the Manchester United players believe Greenwood deserves a second chance at Old Trafford and would welcome his return.
In February, the Public Prosecution Service announced that the charges had been dropped following the withdrawal of a ‘key witness’ in the case.

Manchester United are now one step closer to bringing back Greenwood, having received final approval from their women’s team, club sponsors and fan groups.
However, a group of Red Devils fans protested the prospect of Greenwood’s return ahead of their club’s season opener against Wolves on Monday.
The United supporters made their feelings clear outside Old Trafford with a banner reading: ‘Women fans demand. Stop violence against women. No return from Greenwood.’
Another fan was seen raising a sign at Old Trafford that read: ‘Don’t leave the decision to the women’s team, you spineless motherless bastard.’
Last week, one of the organizers of the protest insisted: ‘It is time for the club to stand up and make the right decision.
Erik ten Hag started the season with a 1-0 win over Wolves, despite his side’s underperformance
“It’s time to say, ‘We have high standards at United about how we expect players to behave and if you don’t live up to those standards then you’re out.’
“This is a tipping point for the club. Will they side with commerce and trophies and money?
“Or do they side with the fans who go to the game and that the club is a social and community institution that we can be proud of and proud of as part of our identity?”
Greenwood will be training outside of Manchester United’s training camp this summer and it is believed the Red Devils are considering moving the attacker abroad on loan to keep him out of the limelight as much as possible.
