Man United boss Erik ten Hag to hold clear-the-air talks with Jadon Sancho after dropping him over his ‘training performances’… with the winger challenging ‘completely untrue’ claims

Man United boss Erik ten Hag to have clear talks with Jadon Sancho after dropping him for his ‘training performance’… with the winger challenging ‘completely untrue’ claims

Erik ten Hag is expected to have clear talks with Jadon Sancho following his omission from Manchester United’s squad at Arsenal on Sunday.

The United manager insisted the England winger was left out because he hadn’t been making a strong enough impression in training lately, but Sancho has questioned that version of events.

The England striker, 23, responded to Ten Hag’s claims on social media, writing: ‘Please don’t believe everything you read!’ he said. “I will not allow people to say things that are completely untrue. This week I behaved very well during training.

“I believe there are other reasons for this issue which I will not go into. I have been a scapegoat for a long time, which is not fair!

“All I want is to play football with a smile on my face and contribute to the team. I respect all decisions made by the coaching staff, I play with great players and I am thankful for that, which I know is a challenge every week. Either way, I’ll keep fighting for this badge!’

Some people close to the 23-year-old believe he has not been given a fair chance to secure a first team place, pointing out that Antony is sometimes given preferential treatment despite struggling for consistency himself.

United insiders, however, reject this theory, believing the Dutch boss believes Sancho can still give more.

Sancho had appeared off the bench in each of United’s first three games of the season, but was completely left out at the Emirates.

Defender Lisandro Martinez, meanwhile, need not fear that he has sustained a significant injury, despite playing against Arsenal on Sunday.

The combative Argentine needed no crutches or protective boots when he left the stadium and will undergo further tests once he joins the Argentina squad to ensure he can continue.
