Sommer played in Switzerland’s first two World Cup games last month, conceding just once, as well as their 6-1 loss to Portugal that saw them knocked out in the round of 16.
Sommer has played more than 270 games for Borussia Mönchengladbach since joining in 2014.
The experienced goalkeeper has made 80 appearances for his national team, as well as more than 270 appearances for his German club since joining from Basel in 2014.
Borussia Mönchengladbach currently sits eighth in the Bundesliga. Despite Germany’s early exit from the World Cup, their main league doesn’t return until January 22.
