Manchester United’s women’s team are reportedly considering ‘using St George’s Park as a temporary training base’ after Marc Skinner’s team moved into portable buildings to house the men’s team.

The Red Devils are currently in the process of a £50 million renovation of their training ground in Carrington, with construction work expected to last until the 2024-25 season.

The club wants to modernize the complex. The work has already started and consists of upgrading the fitness room, medical room, nutrition room and recovery rooms.

Temporary adjustments have been made as the club wants to ensure players and staff can continue their normal activities during the renovation work.

Mail Sport reported in June that the men’s team would be given priority at the women’s training facility when their schedules overlap, with the women’s team set to move into portable buildings.

The measure is intended to allow the men’s team to use their usual training building while their facility is being renovated

United were keen to keep the women’s team at Carrington’s ground, but this was a disappointment to some team members.

According to The Athletic, the club have now reserved St George’s Park for a two-week period, starting on July 29. They will be able to use the park while temporary structures are being built at Carrington.

According to the outlet, the club has yet to make a “final decision” on whether the women’s team will hold a training camp at the English Football Association (FA) headquarters in Staffordshire.

The club are in talks with their players over the proposed move, with The Athletic reporting that the players will remain at their training camp just north of Birmingham, rather than travelling back and forth to Manchester.

It follows the minority takeover of the football club by Sir Jim Ratcliffe, with the British billionaire overseeing several major changes at Man United since his £1.3 billion investment in the football club earlier this year.

Ratcliffe was previously asked about his plans for the women’s team in an interview with Bloomberg. He said: ‘Well, they’ve just won the FA Cup.’

United have announced that they have begun work on upgrading the men’s first team building at the Carrington Training Complex, with work expected to continue through the 2024-25 season.

Co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe has previously been questioned about his plans for the women’s team

After being pressed for more information about whether United would seek outside investors for Skinner’s team, he added: ‘We haven’t really gotten into that level of detail yet with the women football team not yet.

“We’ve been focusing on how we solve the issues with the first team, especially in that environment. That’s been pretty full-time for the first six months.”

United’s women’s team ended the season with a 4–0 win over Tottenham in the Women’s FA Cup final, despite finishing fifth in the WSL table, 20 points behind winners Chelsea.

Several notable figures have also left the club this summer, including Katie Zelem and Mary Earps. The Lionesses goalkeeper joined Paris Saint-Germain earlier this week after rejecting a contract extension with the Red Devils, claiming the club’s ‘transition period’ did not match where she was in her career.
