Pochettino was believed to have lost out on Ten Hag in the race to take over at Old Trafford in 2022

Ten Hag, who guided United to their worst ever Premier League finish of eighth this season, faces an uncertain future at Old Trafford with a decision to be made soon as to whether he will remain in charge.

It is believed minority owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe is not yet sure whether he wants to make a change after investing a minority stake earlier this year. A decision is expected after Saturday’s FA Cup final against rivals Manchester City.

Pochettino was strongly linked with the Old Trafford job before Ten Hag’s appointment at the start of the 2022 season, but missed out on the role.

Former United chiefs Richard Arnold and John Murtough are said to have spoken to the former Tottenham manager about taking on the role, but opted for Ten Hag instead.

Now out of work again, it is clear that Pochettino would offer Ratcliffe a cheaper option if he wanted to switch to a manager he is a great admirer of. Several fans also took to social media on Tuesday to call out Ten Hag. to be replaced by the outgoing Blues boss.

Pochettino has jumped to the front of the queue in Sky Bet betting and is the next man to take charge at United, ahead of Thomas Tuchel and Gareth Southgate.

Graham Potter, Roberto De Zerbi and Kieran McKenna are also among those who could take the lead if Ratcliffe Ten Hag continues.
