Manchester United have named their 25-man Champions League squad for the group stage, but left out £40 million flop Donny van de Beek.

The league kicks off later this month, with United lined up alongside fellow giants Bayern Munich, Copenhagen and Galatasaray.

Summer signings Rasmus Hojlund, Andre Onana, Sergio Reguilon, Sofyan Amrabat and Altay Bayindir have all taken home the award, along with most of the first-team pick.

Mason Mount, meanwhile, is on the list of association-trained players along with Harry Maguire, Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Jadon Sancho, despite the latter’s future being unclear.

Jonny Evans, who has signed up as a back-up center eight years after ending his lengthy first spell, is on the club’s trained roster.

But there is no room for midfielder Van de Beek.

The 26-year-old, who came over from Ajax in 2020, has not been included in a match selection this season and his nightmare period at Old Trafford seems to be coming to an end.

According to reports, a move to Lorient collapsed on a deadline because of his attitude. Van de Beek would have refused to talk to them earlier in the window.

Despite this, United are still actively working to sack him.

The Turkish window may represent an escape and, as reported by Mailsport, Galatasaray are interested. Negotiations are believed to be ongoing.

Should Galatasaray wish to sign Van de Beek, they have until September 15 to finalize the deal, with the deadline set over two weeks later than England’s.

Van de Beek’s time at United was plagued by a series of injuries, a failed move to Everton and an inability to impress all his managers.

Even Erik ten Hag, who worked with Van de Beek at Ajax, failed to inspire him to make a turn in form, with numerous other midfield options being preferred to him.

United will also submit a B-list of players prior to each Champions League match. This group includes Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo.
