  • Arsenal have reopened talks with Russo’s agent after an earlier record bid fell through
  • Man United finished second in this season’s WSL, ahead of Jonas Eidevall’s side

Manchester United and English star Alessia Russo could command a world record fee after instigating talks with Arsenal.

Marc Skinner’s side finished second in the WSL, their best-ever finish, and Russo’s performances also helped the side reach the FA Cup final.

Now that Russo has been included in the 23-man England squad taking part in this summer’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand, she is also seeking the interest of a top-level rival.

Arsenal have opened talks with Russo’s agent to try and bring the 24-year-old star to London. That reports the Manchester Evening News.

Jonas Eidevall’s Arsenal side are looking for reinforcements after finishing third in the table – behind Man United.

Arsenal have reopened talks with Russo’s agent after a record bid fell through in January

The Gunners made a record bid for Russo in the January transfer window, to no avail, and now after months of speculation serious talks have resumed.

The current world record fee for a women’s footballer is the £400,000 that Barcelona paid Manchester City last summer to sign Keira Walsh.

Russo scored 10 goals last season as Man United raced to second in the table and qualified for Europe for the first time.

It led to her being named the club’s player of the year – an accolade that sparked an uproar on social media when a male CEO of the club’s charity arm said the trophy was “too heavy” for her.

She also scored important goals in matches against Arsenal – putting Skinner’s side above the Gunners, and they equaled Chelsea’s record from when they lifted the 2021/22 WSL trophy.

However, Chelsea beat last year’s form, losing just twice en route to sealing the competition with a victory over Reading on the final day.
