Man United among clubs thrown into ticket sale CHAOS after global tech outage – as system failure leads to Sky Sports News crashing, airlines grounding and banks shutting down

Manchester United is one of the clubs that had to postpone ticket sales due to a global technical failure.

Sky Sports News was down on Friday morning after a major technical glitch. The outage caused chaos around the world, and Sky News was also affected.

Hospitals, train services, banks, stock exchanges and TV channels were all offline.

United had planned to go on sale before the start of the new Premier League season, but their ticket website was unavailable. Sales were initially delayed until midday, and later moved to 10am on Monday.

A statement from the official Manchester United Matchday account said: ‘Unfortunately, this morning’s ticket sales will be delayed until midday due to a global outage on Microsoft servers, which is impacting many systems, including ours.

‘The website will also remain unavailable until the issue is resolved. Further updates will be provided here, including any further potential delays.’

A later update added: ‘UPDATE: Today’s ticket sales have been postponed until 10am on Monday 22nd July.

‘This is due to ongoing technical issues caused by a global outage at Microsoft Servers.

‘We apologize for the inconvenience.’

Other clubs, including Brentford, Crystal Palace, Middlesbrough and Coventry, were also affected.

Brentford wrote on X: ‘Due to a third-party software issue affecting businesses globally, Brentford FC’s Ticketmaster platform is currently experiencing technical difficulties. Supporters wishing to purchase tickets are advised not to join the online queue.’

Crystal Palace experienced similar problems, with ticket sales for the match against Brentford being postponed until Monday.

They wrote on X: ‘Due to a global issue with Microsoft systems, the sale of Brentford v Crystal Palace tickets has been delayed until Monday (10:00). Unfortunately we are unable to process ticket sales online or by phone, so please do not call the box office. We apologise for the inconvenience.’

Middlesbrough meanwhile wrote: ‘Due to the global IT outage we are currently unable to process card payments via our ticket counters and online’.

The technical glitch caused departure boards at airports, including Gatwick, to fail

Coventry said: ‘Due to the ongoing global IT outage, we are currently unable to process ticket sales via the ticket office or on our e-ticketing website.

‘We will keep supporters informed in due course.

‘We apologize for any inconvenience.’

The global technical outage suddenly locked up Windows computers, leading to the shutdown of departure boards at airports including Heathrow, Gatwick and Edinburgh.

Train passengers also had to take delays due to IT problems into account and a number of GP practices also had to close.
