Man United ‘agree to sell academy star Zidane Iqbal to Dutch side FC Utrecht for £850,000’ with the 20-year-old midfielder ‘signing a four-year contract’

  • Zidane Iqbal made his senior Man United debut against Young Boys in 2021
  • The midfield forward has not played for the first team since that match
  • The 20-year-old is now being sold to FC Utrecht for less than £1 million

Manchester United plans to sell Zidane Iqbal in midfield to FC Utrecht.

Iqbal has come through the ranks at Old Trafford, making his senior debut in a Champions League match against Young Boys in December 2021.

However, that has turned out to be his only appearance for the first team, and having failed to make a breakthrough, he is now on the verge of being moved.

United have agreed a fee of £850,000 with Dutch side Utrecht, and the 20-year-old is expected to sign a four-year contract, as reported by The athletic.

According to the report, United has agreed a substantial sell-on clause to be included in its contract.

Iqbal was not under Erik ten Hag last season and is now going to FC Utrecht

Despite not featuring in the Premier League under Erik ten Hag, Iqbal made the bench several times last season, suggesting he was not far from making his top flight.

However, he didn’t get his chance for the Red Devils, with Ten Hag preferring his more senior options.

Iqbal has three caps for Iraq and United fans have been begging him to play more after his performance against Russia in March went viral on social media.

However, these calls fell on deaf ears as the youngster is now moving permanently away from Old Trafford for less than £1million.

Utrecht finished seventh in the Eredivisie last season and took 54 points from 34 games.
