Manchester United have agreed a deal for Matthijs de Ligt and a transfer fee for Noussair Mazraoui, with reports suggesting the club are close to completing a sensational double transfer from Bayern Munich that will transform Erik ten Hag’s defence.
The Athletics United are claiming that they have reached an agreement with Bayern for centre-back De Ligt, who will arrive in a €50m (£43m) transfer and will undergo a medical shortly. United will pay around £38m upfront with £5m in add-ons.
Dutch international De Ligt, a key target for Ten Hag this summer, has signed a five-year contract with an option to extend for a further twelve months.
Bayern are also said to have accepted a £17m bid from United for defender Mazraoui, with a bid of £13m plus £4m in bonuses enough to secure the 26-year-old.
However, this move is dependent on Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s departure from Old Trafford.
West Ham have reportedly agreed a fee of £15million with United for the full-back, but negotiations over the length of his deal are still ongoing. Wan-Bissaka must also tie up financial loose ends with the Red Devils before he can join the club.
According to The Athletic, a medical is scheduled for Sunday or Monday.
Wan-Bissaka, 26, joined United from Crystal Palace in 2019 and has made 190 first-team appearances since then. He has just one year left on his current contract.
The signing of De Ligt, a former Ajax and Juventus player, is an important reinforcement for Ten Hag just before United take on Manchester City in the Community Shield at Wembley.
Strengthening the options at the heart of his defence has been a priority for the United manager ahead of the new season and it appears he has finally found his man.
Moroccan defender Mazrouai, who played for Ten Hag during his time at Ajax, has also entered the final year of his contract with Bayern and can play as a left back.
More to come.
