Man United 0-2 Newcastle – PLAYER RATINGS: Where does big-money flop go from here? Which two Red Devils scored just 4/10? And who was imperious for the Magpies?

Manchester United suffered their fourth defeat in a row on Monday evening when they were defeated 2-0 by Newcastle at Old Trafford.

The damage was done early on as Alexander Isak and Joelinton put the Magpies in full control within the first half hour.

Joshua Zirkzee was taken off the field shortly afterwards and United showed some signs of improvement after the break, but it was too little too late.

It was another miserable evening for United, who remain 14th, while Newcastle rise to fifth.

But were there any United players who stood out? And who were Newcastle’s star performers?

Mail Sport’s CHRIS WHEELER and CRAIG HOPE were on hand to judge the players on display at Old Trafford…

MAN UNITED (3-4-3)

ANDRE ONANA 5 – Looked shaky under high balls again after being beaten by a corner at Wolves, but had no protection from his defense for either goal.

MATTHIJS DE LIGT 4.5 – Back from illness and he must have wished he had stayed in bed. Every time Newcastle got near them, United’s defense looked terrified.

HARRY MAGUIRE5 – Made a number of timely interceptions as United’s back three cracked and came forward to head against the post just before the hour mark.

LISANDRO MARTINEZ 4 – Captained for the night but lost sight of Isak for the first goal and was beaten by Joelinton for the second goal. His height seems more of an issue now.

NOUSSAIR MAZRAOUI 4.5 – He was one of the better players under Amorim, but had perhaps his toughest game yet against Gordon and Hall on United’s right.

CASEMIRO 4 – First competition start in a month and played like that. His passing was wrong, one shot went 20 yards over the bar and sent a great chance wide before half-time.

Casemiro missed a big chance and his passing remained sub-par all evening

CHRISTIAN ERIKSEN 4.5 – Slightly better after the break, but United’s experienced midfield line-up looked old and slow against Tonali and Joelinton.

DIOGO DALOT 5 – The only good news is that he won’t have to continue playing on his weaker foot if United sign a left-back in the January transfer window.

AMAD DIALLO 5.5 – As usual, plenty of effort from the little Ivorian, but not much was noticeable as he was dominated by Burn and Hall.

RASMUS HOJLUND 5 – A thankless task against Schar and Burn on his own, and he squandered his best chance when he got through on goal and shot wide.

JOSHUA ZIRKZEE 3 – Brutal exit when replaced by Mainoo in the 33rd minute, to loud cheers around Old Trafford. Where does he go from here?

Booked: Martinez

Administrator: Ruben Amorim 4 – United seem to be going backwards under him. How long before he has to consider changing the game plan to better suit his players?

NEWCASTLE (4-3-3)

MARTIN DUBRAVKA 6.5 – Spectator for most of the first half, but the footwork was neat when it needed to be. A fourth clean sheet on spin in the Premier League.

KIERAN TRIPPIER 7 – Didn’t put a step wrong and was unlucky not to score straight from the first half. Brings class and calm to the team.

FABIAN SCHAR 6 – Fortunately, a sloppy pass just before half-time was not punished with a goal and the marking was not tight enough for Maguire to direct the header into the post.

THEN BURN 8.5 – The imperious form continues and wins a physical duel with Hojlund. When the hosts improved in the second half, he stepped up and saw his team home. MOM.

LEWIS ROOM 8 – Superb cross for the opener and used space on the left. Huge goalmouth block second half. Looks like an English left back.

BRUNO GUIMARAES 8 – Continues to enjoy the number 8 role. Passing was so cute and clever and Brazilian was by far the most creative player in the game. Controlled midfield.

SANDRO TONALI 7.5 – Did what he has done in all games since moving to number 6: controlled the game and made it look easy. Should have scored when he hit the post at 2-0.

JOELINTON 7.5 – How Man United could do with his type in midfield. Bullying Casemiro and Eriksen and a dominant display were rewarded with a goal.

JACOB MURPHY 6.5 – Quieter from an attacking perspective after a string of goals and assists, but did well defensively, dropping deep to help Trippier.

ALEXANDER ISAK 7 – The hosts couldn’t live with him at times in the first half and inexplicably left him alone to lead the early opener. Should have added a second when he was sent clear.

ANTHONY GORDON 7 – Winger was the go-to man during the first half dominance and provided an assist for Joelinton. Like Isak, he should have helped himself to more.

Anthony Gordon will feel he should have scored but was still a consistent threat

Manager: Eddie Howe 7.5 – The tactics were perfect and his three-man midfield set the tone for a dominant first half that saw them win the match.
