Man is led by a woman for the first time in its 240-year history: Robyn Grew takes over the hedge fund in September

Top job: Robyn Grew replaces Luke Ellis as Man boss in September

Hedge fund Man Group will be led by two women for the first time in its history after Robyn Grew is named CEO.

Grew, the company’s president, will take over from Luke Ellis in September, becoming one of the few women in the world to lead a major fund.

It means that the top male roles will both be held by women when chairman John Cryan makes way for Anne Wade towards the end of 2023.

In the thousands of hedge funds around the world, women make up just 21.3 percent of employees.

Danni Hewson, at AJ Bell, said, “This is a notorious space for alpha males, but women know how to invest, too.”

Grew joined Man 14 years ago and has held a number of positions. She moves from New York to London.

Man started in the 18th century and is the world’s largest publicly traded hedge fund.

Last year it made a profit of £620 million. Customer inflows amounted to £2.5 billion.
