A lone protester was arrested by police today after he threw eggs at King Charles and the Queen Consort while on a walk in York.
The job was bundled to the ground by four police officers shouting ‘this country is built on the blood of slaves’. Meanwhile, onlookers gathered to see the royal family chanted “God save the King” and “shame on you.”
Footage shows the eggs flying past His Majesty and breaking to the ground beside him as he was greeted by city leaders. The king looked around for a moment to see the eggs on the ground, but otherwise barely reacted.
As officers carried the man into a waiting police van, Charles continued with a traditional ceremony, with the sovereign being officially welcomed to the city of York by the Lord Mayor.
It was last performed by his mother, the Queen, in 2012. After the eggs, Charles and Camilla appeared unfazed as they continued their walk and greeted some of the crowd.
The couple were in York to attend the unveiling of a statue of Queen Elizabeth II, the first to be installed since her death, as part of a short tour of Yorkshire.
