A man was tasered and arrested aboard a Jetstar flight after allegedly refusing to move to his assigned seat because he wanted to sit next to his mate.

The 30-year-old was charged with disorderly conduct after allegedly abusing aboard Jetstar flight JQ977 from Perth to Melbourne on Saturday.

It is clear that the man was seated next to another passenger he was traveling with, and police allege he became rude when asked to take his assigned seat before departing.

Australian Federal Police officers were called in as the situation escalated and removed him from the flight.

Police allege the man assaulted an officer and had to be restrained during the arrest.

“Police had to deploy a taser to restrain and arrest the man,” AFP said in a statement.

“Three AFP officers suffered minor injuries that were later treated.”

The 30-year-old man has been banned from flying until the case is resolved.

The second passenger traveling with the man was also escorted off the plane, but was not arrested.

Jetstar thanked the other passengers on board for their patience during the man’s arrest.

“The safety of our customers and crew is our number one priority and while the vast majority of our customers are well behaved, we have zero tolerance for those who don’t,” a spokesman said.

Our crew called the AFP for help when a customer (allegedly) became verbally and physically abusive after repeatedly refusing to follow their instructions to go to their assigned seat.

“After checking the well-being of the other passengers and crew on board, the flight departed Perth approximately one hour after its scheduled departure time.

“We thank passengers for their patience as our crew worked with AFP to manage the situation.”

The man was due to appear in court yesterday.
