Man suspected of killing 3 people fatally shot by police near Chicago
BERWYN, Ill. — A man suspected in the fatal shootings of three people in central Illinois was shot by police after opening fire on them in a Chicago suburb, authorities said Thursday.
Officers in Berwyn responded to a report of a man with a gun on Wednesday around 11:30 p.m. The man ran away and entered a home where he shot and killed two dogs, police said.
He then ran into a nearby garden, where he refused police orders to stop. The man then shot at Berwyn officers and they returned fire, killing him.
The man was later identified as John Lyons, 24, of Westchester, west of Chicago.
Police said he was suspected in the fatal shootings of three people in Mahomet, about 120 miles (190 kilometers) southwest of Chicago. One of the victims died on Wednesday around 9:40 PM at the place where the three were found. The other two were pronounced dead at a nearby hospital.
