Man shot to death in New York City subway car

NEW YORK — A 45-year-old man died early Friday morning on a New York City subway train, police said.

New York police said the man was killed around 5 a.m. while riding a southbound D train entering the 182-183 Streets station in the Bronx.

A police spokeswoman initially said the man had been shot in the torso, but later described the victim’s fatal wound as a “stab wound.” Officers found the man unconscious and he was later pronounced dead at nearby St. Barnabas Hospital.

Authorities are looking for three men who fled the train after the shooting. No arrests have been made and an investigation is ongoing.

Trains skipped the station during the morning run, authorities said. Police will hold a press conference about the incident on Friday afternoon.

The killing came after a 35-year-old man was killed and five others injured in a shooting at another subway station in the Bronx earlier this month.
