Man shot dead by police in Kalgoorlie, Western Australia
A man who was fatally shot by police in Western Australia after approaching officers while armed with a gun has been identified.
Dave, 58, whose family has chosen not to give his surname, was shot just after midday on Friday in Kalgoorlie, 600 kilometers east of Perth.
Dave was armed with a gun at the time and had been repeatedly warned by police before they opened fire.

“The police officers discharged their firearms after giving the man several warnings and after the man approached them,” WA Police said.
One officer fired his gun twice, while another fired his gun once.
Dave was hit once in the chest while officers administered first aid until paramedics arrived.
He was rushed to Kalgoorlie Hospital but died from his injuries at around 1.30pm on Friday.
Detectives from WA’s Major Crime Division are investigating the man’s death after authorities reported a critical incident at the scene.
Dave’s gun was also confiscated. It is not known whether it is a working firearm.

WA Police said they reviewed footage from body cameras officers wore during the incident.
“And based on that preliminary assessment, it appears that the officers involved acted in accordance with policy and their training,” a spokesperson said.
“The health and wellbeing of the officers involved remains a priority and they have been placed on mandatory leave for critical incidents.
“Health and social care staff have traveled to Kalgoorlie to provide support to officers.”
