- Man cleaned his washing machine with dishwasher tablets
- He found hidden dirt and grime inside
- Some warned against using the tablets in washing machines
A man was shocked to see the dirt and grime in his washing machine after putting it on a cleaning cycle with dishwasher tablets.
Billy Sarris decided to give his washing machine a good clean after washing his sheets and then noticed a strange smell coming from the machine.
He decided to put the machine on an extra warm cycle with two dishwasher tablets in it to clean it and get rid of the smell.
After just 15 minutes he started to see dirt in the soapy water in his front loader and after 40 minutes more dirt had come to light.
Billy said that after he put the dishwasher tablets through the machine, it smelled “fresh” and clean enough to put his sheets through another cycle.
A man was shocked by what he saw in his washing machine after cleaning it with two dishwasher tablets. He noticed dirt and grime in the suds during a clean cycle
“So I just washed my sheets and when I opened the washer door I smelled something strange so I thought to myself ‘hmm this washer needs a little TLC’,” Billy said in a TikTok clamp.
He put two dishwasher tablets in the drum and set the machine to wash at the highest possible temperature.
After 15 minutes Billy saw dirt between the suds in the drum and after 40 minutes even more.
By the end of the cycle, Billy happily reported that the water was clear, grime-free, and smelled “fresh” when it was done.
Some say it’s good, others say it’s bad. I say it’s great,” he wrote of the hack.
His video was viewed over 1.1 million times and horrified many in the comments.
‘Dishwasher tablets don’t even get that soapy. That’s all the detergent residue,” one viewer commented.
Others shared their tips they use to keep their washing machines fresh and mold free.
“Device rep here. You are supposed to keep the door open after every wash so that the water inside can evaporate. That helps!’ said a woman.
‘Next time, do a drum cleaning at 90 degrees with a dash of bleach. Dishwasher tablets can cause problems with the hose,” warned a second.
He put two dishwasher tablets in the drum and set the machine to the highest possible temperature, but not everyone agreed with the hack.
“Just use vinegar on the highest setting,” suggested a third.
“Once a week, highest temperature and longest setting, no product,” a fourth recommended.
Although dishwasher tablets will not harm or cause serious damage to the appliance, it can be used infrequently, but prolonged use can potentially cause problems.
Most manufacturers warn against the use of dishwasher tablets and this may void the machine’s warranty.
The tablets require very high temperatures to work effectively and can leave residues in the drum, seal and hose.
It can also potentially attack the seals with their harsh chemicals and cause too much foam to build up during a cycle.
