A man is in a serious condition after being set on fire during an iconic annual event that draws thousands of revelers to the small, rural NSW town of Deniliquin, near the Victorian border.

Police are appealing to the public for information after emergency services were called to a campsite at the ‘Deni Ute Muster’ following reports that a man had caught fire.

A 22-year-old man was found with significant facial burns after he was allegedly set on fire by another man who tried to ignite a spray can nearby.

He was treated by paramedics before being flown to Alfred Hospital in Victoria where he remains in a serious condition.

The Deni Ute Muster has become one of Australia’s premier ‘bucket list’ events, attracting 20,000 people to celebrate country life and the iconic ‘ute’ over the long weekend.
