Man is pulled from the water at Clovelly Beach, in Sydney’s east

An elderly man has been put into a medically induced coma after being pulled from the water at one of Sydney’s most popular swimming spots.

The man, in his 80s, is said to have suffered a medical episode while swimming at Clovelly Beach, in the east of the city, just before midday on Monday.

He was treated at the scene by paramedics before being taken to St Vincent’s Hospital in a critical condition.

It is understood he has been placed in a medically induced coma as he continues to fight for his life.
