Man makes shocking discovery comparing chicken bought at his local butcher to Walmart and Perdue poultry: ‘This is alarming’

A man who bought chicken breasts at two different stores was shocked to learn how different they can be from each other.

Kalani Smith, who is known on social media as Kalani Ghost Hunter, posted a TikTok video on May 21, he compared the chicken breasts he bought WalmartPerdue and from his local butcher Tennessee.

The ghost hunter picked up each of the unopened packages of chicken breast before showing viewers the scales he would use to weigh each chicken breast and determine how different the poultry items were from each other.

The video of Smith’s ‘scary’ discovery has been viewed more than a million times and more than 5,000 TikTokers have left comments.

He immediately pointed out some differences between the chicken breasts before removing them from the package

Kalani Smith, who is known on social media as Kalani Ghost Hunter, posted a TikTok video on May 21 comparing three chicken breasts purchased at different locations.

“Visually you can see there is a huge difference between what we get from a farm at our local butcher compared to what they give us at Walmart,” Smith said.

Referring to the small words on the Walmart package, he said the chicken breast “may contain up to 5 percent water.”

Based on that message, Smith, best known for his food and ghost hunting themed videos on social media, decided to take a piece of chicken breast from each brand and weigh it on a scale.

One chicken breast from a package he bought at his local butcher shop in Tennessee weighed 187 grams on a scale, while the others weighed more than 300 grams.

Smith first took the largest chicken breast from his local butcher shop and carefully placed it on the scales, before revealing that the farm-fresh chicken breast weighed 187 grams.

The ghost hunter then removed a piece of Walmart chicken breast, but revealed he had to cut off part of it so the results would be “as accurate as possible.”

The TikToker was almost speechless after seeing that the weight of the Walmart chicken breast after he cut it off was 392 grams.

Smith moved on to the Perdue chicken breast, which he claimed would be “slightly better quality than Walmart’s.”

However, his jaw dropped as soon as he found out that the Perdue chicken breast weighed 347 grams.

“If you compare the percentage difference between the smallest brisket we have and the largest, it is 109.6 percent larger at Walmart than at our butcher,” Smith said.

“The Perdue brisket is slightly smaller and 85.56 percent larger than our butcher’s brisket, but 5 percent would be water.”

Smith’s “alarming” discovery comes a month after Walmart reached a multi-million dollar settlement for inflating the weight of meat contents in its packaging.

Customers were eligible for refunds on several chicken purchases, including ten types of chicken breast products.

“We will continue to offer our customers low prices every day to help them save money on the products they want and need,” a Walmart spokesperson said. CNBC last month.

“We continue to deny the allegations, but we believe a settlement is in the best interests of both parties.”

Several TikTokers who viewed Smith’s video have spoken out about his alarming results.

‘The bucher looks like a normal chicken. The other one looks like a giant abnormal monster chicken,” one TikToker wrote on May 21.

At least two TikTokers joked that the extra weight in Walmart and Perdue’s chicken breasts was “growth hormones.”

However, one person wrote about why there is so much weight in the chicken breasts.

“It’s injected with water plus preservatives which makes it bigger, but cooking releases a lot of water,” the TikToker wrote.

Others agree with that commenter, noting that heavier chicken will cost more money.

“You should definitely cook them all in the same amount of time and then weigh them,” one TikToker suggested in their comment.

“I bet the big ones will lose a lot of weight, but the butcher’s ones won’t lose nearly as much weight.”
