An elderly man has been killed in a hit-and-run attack outside an elementary school in suburban Victoria.

Victoria Police have created a crime scene in front of Kilberry Valley Primary School in Hampton Park in Melbourne’s southeastern suburbs after being called around 5:30 a.m. Friday.

The incident took place on Warana Drive on Kilberry Boulevard.

The 73-year-old local man is known to be on his typical morning walk when he was hit by a vehicle.

The man passed the scene and the driver left with the vehicle.

Police are investigating the exact circumstances of the collision and remain at the scene.

They’ve blocked access to the road.

Parents have been informed that the school is still open for learning.

A parent told the local newspaper the Herald Sun the scene was ‘confrontational’, she saw it as she dropped her daughter off at daycare.

“It’s quite a confrontational scene,” she said.

“I would avoid having children that way if possible.”

Police are calling on witnesses or drivers with dashcam images of the incident to come forward.
