Man fights for his life after being set on fire during an argument with another man who threw petrol over him and ignited it at a Mobil gas station
- The two men got into a fight in Tampa around 4:30 p.m. on May 28
- Earl Hargrove, Jr. was charged with attempted first-degree murder
A Tampa, Florida man was arrested Sunday afternoon after pouring gasoline on another man during an argument at a gas station and setting him on fire, leaving him fighting for his life.
The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office said around 4:30 p.m. on May 28, two men got into an argument outside a Mobil gas station on 22nd Street in Tampa, Florida.
After the confrontation, police said 34-year-old Earl Hargrove Jr. bought some gasoline at the pump.
Hargrove then allegedly poured the gas on the victim before setting him on fire.
The sheriff’s office did not identify the victim, but said he was taken to Tampa General Hospital, where he is in critical condition with life-threatening injuries.

“A verbal altercation should never escalate to this level of violence,” said Hillsborough County Sheriff Chad Chronister.
“This suspect’s behavior is not only regrettable, but will never be tolerated in our community. The suspect, in this case, is currently behind bars while we await justice.”
Hargrove was charged with attempted first-degree murder and grievous bodily harm causing grievous bodily harm.
He is currently being held without bond at Hillsborough County Orient Road Jail.
