A man has been charged after a 63-year-old was allegedly stabbed to death, with neighbors recalling screams emanating from a property.

Police were called to a unit on Mine Street in Redbank, a suburb of Ipswich, in south-east Queensland at about 10.25pm ​​on Saturday.

Emergency services provided the 63-year-old man with multiple serious stab wounds and attempted to treat him before he died shortly afterwards.

A 28-year-old man from Boronia Heights who was found on the property and taken into custody.

He was later charged with murder, threat of violence and possession of dangerous drugs (methamphetamine).

Police believe three people, the two men and a woman, were in a unit when an altercation broke out.

A four-year-old child was also reportedly in the unit at the time.

Detective Inspector David Briese described the crime scene as “gory.”

Detective Briese said the woman and child were unharmed.

The two men were known to each other, according to police.

Neighbor Charlie Ridgeway Jr said he heard a disturbance before police arrived at the unit.

“Pretty much what we heard last night was fighting in the flats, we heard screaming,” he told the Courier Mail.

β€œWe heard a big scream right after the scream, like a grown man screaming. About 20 minutes later there were 20 police cars.’

Mr Ridgeway said the area had changed for the worse since a block of flats was built two years ago.

The suspect will appear before Ipswich Magistrates Court on Monday.
