Horrifying footage has been captured of the moment a man held a human leg after the limb was severed in a train crash.

Stunned onlookers filmed from the road as Rosendo Tellez, 27, allegedly picked up the leg, smelled it and waved it through the streets of Wasco, California.

Kern County sheriff’s deputies arrested Tellez near the railroad tracks on charges of removing body parts from an area that is not a cemetery.

It came after an unidentified person was struck by an Amtrak train Friday morning, killing him instantly and severing his leg. The investigation into the death is ongoing.

Footage from the moment of the alleged cannibalization shows several sheriff’s vehicles on the Amtrack railroad tracks.

It appeared that the area was still active as of the time the person was hit by the train, which arrived shortly after 8 a.m.

The man, identified by police as Tellez, casually strolled down the street while holding the leg with one hand.

He then leaned over and smelled the leg, wiped his mouth and turned it around as officers approached the sickening episode.

Officers said Tellez was arrested without incident and was found to have outstanding warrants.  The photo shows the area where he removed the leg

Officials said Tellez was arrested without incident and was found to have several outstanding warrants.

Railroad operator Burlington Northern Santa confirmed to ABC23 that one of their trains was involved in the fatal collision.

They said the person was struck while standing in front of an Amtrak platform, but the investigation remains ongoing.

Tellez remains in custody and is scheduled to appear in court on March 26.
