A man found with ‘severe’ head trauma in Los Angeles has sparked a mystery as police and hospital staff fail to identify him after more than a week.
Officials continue to appeal for help in naming the unidentified victim, who was found with only Japanese money in his wallet.
The patient, an Asian man believed to be in his mid-20s, was found Oct. 9 in the 3700 block of South Meyler Street, a residential area.
He was found with a black backpack containing travel-sized hygiene products and a wallet containing only Japanese money.
He suffered a traumatic brain injury, which left him unconscious. He had been intubated and sedated since last Wednesday at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center, where he was listed as in serious condition.

The man was taken to Harbor-UCLA Medical Center, where he was intubated and sedated. He has since been listed in serious condition. No identifiable tattoos, scars or marks were found on his body
A photo of the victim was released by the health department and has been viewed by more than 16 million people on KTL reported.
Authorities have revealed that the unidentified man is 6 feet tall and weighs approximately 158 pounds.
He also had no recognizable tattoos, scars or marks on his body.
It is unclear how exactly he sustained his serious injuries.
Since he was discovered, many have taken to social media asking others to share the photo and description of the man to help find his family and friends.
“Hey friends, apparently they found this unknown young man in San Pedro, California, with a traumatic brain injury. He had Japanese money in his wallet. I know many of my friends have Japanese friends or connections. Can you share this to find his next of kin?
His family must be with him, but he had no ID. Someone’s son is really, really hurt right now. He may be a Japanese tourist or just returned from visiting family,” said one person on Facebook who reposted his photo.
A California Facebook group also reposted the young man’s mysterious story.
“Despite millions of people watching on social media, the case of an unidentified young man found with serious head injuries earlier this month remains unsolved,” the Facebook post said.
A missing person’s Facebook group also reposted his story, saying, “Help find his family.”
Another message said: ‘Does anyone know this young man? At the end of the story there is a phone number you can call.”
