Tragedy as the body of man, 23, is pulled from the water at Lake Parramatta in Sydney

The body of a man has been found near Lake Parramatta in western Sydney.

Emergency responders were called to the area just before 6:30 PM on Monday after reports the man had gone underwater and not emerged.

Police said his body was found in the water at around 9.30pm following a search involving water police, paramedics and a rescue helicopter.

The man, believed to be 23 years old, has not yet been formally identified.

A report will be prepared for the coroner.
