Son allegedly stabs father to death in a Western Sydney home

A father has died after his son allegedly stabbed him in the neck at a western Sydney home.

Emergency services were called to a house on Layton Street in Wentworthville at around 6.30am on Thursday after reports of a stabbing.

Officers found 64-year-old George Vaz, who had been stabbed in the neck, according to 9NEWS.

Despite the presence of ambulance personnel, the man died on the spot.

A crime scene was established and an investigation began.

Mr Vaz’s 60-year-old wife was also at home at the time of the incident, but she was not injured.

His 34-year-old son, Shayne Vaz, was arrested shortly afterwards and taken to Granville Police Station.

The police assume that the three people are known to each other.

The man was charged with domestic violence murder on Thursday.

Detective Inspector Danny Doherty called the incident ‘sad’ on Thursday.

“Unfortunately… there is a family member who is now dead,” Detective Doherty said.

“We believe it is another sad, domestic incident.”

The 34-year-old was refused bail and will appear in Parramatta Local Court on Friday.
