Man dies after falling from waterfall at Behana Gorge

A man has died after falling 30 meters from the top of a popular waterfall in Far North Queensland.

The 55-year-old Brisbane man fell from the waterfall at Clamshell Falls, located in Behana Gorge, south of Cairns, at around 1.30pm on Sunday.

Police launched a search and rescue mission and found the man with life-threatening injuries around 2:30 p.m. He lay in the water for some time. ABC reports.

A Queensland Ambulance Service spokesperson said Daily Mail Australia paramedics attempted to revive the man but he was later pronounced dead at the scene.

A report will be prepared for the coroner.

The latest incident comes after a 58-year-old man died in 2019 after slipping and falling while at the popular swimming hole.

The waterfall at Behana Gorge is a thirty-minute drive from Cairns and is popular with swimmers and offers visitors beautiful views.

Tourists are advised to carry food and water as there are no facilities in the area.

Visitors are also advised that the best time to go walking in the area is in the morning or afternoon, when the weather is not too hot.
