Man in Mackay dies after falling 20metres from a ‘collapsing’ wind turbine in freak workplace accident

A man has died after falling from a wind turbine north of Mackay in Queensland.

A man in his 30s fell about 20 meters when a wind tower toppled at Lake Proserpine on the Whitsunday Coast on Thursday afternoon.

Queensland Ambulance Service confirmed crews were called to a property on Station Road at 12.40pm.

A helicopter crew was deployed shortly afterwards.

Paramedics assessed him for serious injuries, but he tragically died at the scene.

It is unclear what caused the tower to fall.

It is understood Workplace Health and Safety Queensland will launch an investigation following the incident.
