Man convicted of trying to arrange the murder of a federal prosecutor

BIRMINGHAM, Alabama — A jury has found a man guilty of orchestrating the murder of a federal prosecutor in Alabama.

The jury on Thursday found Michael Roman Black, 32, guilty of making a death threat to a federal officer, solicitation to commit murder and making false statements to a federal agent.

Federal prosecutors wrote in a news release that while Black was a prisoner at Hoover, he told another inmate about his plan to have one of the federal prosecutors working on his case killed by two accomplices “on the outside.” Federal prosecutors said he shared details about who he planned to contact and have them shoot the prosecutor dead in her car.

Black faces up to 20 years in prison for the solicitation charge, 10 years for the uttering a threat charge and five years for the making a false statement charge. He will be sentenced in December.

An attorney for Black did not immediately respond to an email seeking comment.
