MAN CITY PLAYER RATINGS: Ilkay Gundogan stole the show during FA Cup final victory over United

MAN CITY PLAYER REVIEWS: Rodri and John Stones were dominant, Erling Haaland was a handful and Ilkay Gundogan stole the show in Man City’s 2-1 FA Cup final victory over United at Wembley

Manchester City put themselves within reach of a historic Treble after beating rivals Man United 2-1 in the FA Cup final.

Pep Guardiola’s side provided an intense counter at Wembley on Saturday afternoon after a brace from German midfielder Ilkay Gundogan.

The 32-year-old opened the scoring with a record goal, having scored just 12 seconds into the first half – the fastest goal in FA Cup final history.

Bruno Fernandes hit back before the break, but the German shot with his back to the front in the second half and they didn’t look back from there.

And so, here, Mail Sports Jack Gaughan provides ratings and reviews for every player in City’s side.

Manchester City (3-2-4-1)

STEPHAN ORTEGA – 7

Generally composed on the ball and in starting their build-up. Hardly anything to do until stoppage time blocking Raphael Varane.

KYLE WALKER – 6.5

Can get a bit over-enthusiastic on the big occasions, but won his duels and had to be more careful when Alejandro Garnacho was introduced.

RUBEN DIAS – 7.5

Pep Guardiola agitated by not moving possession fast enough. Great defensive effort though and dealt with Marcus Rashford without fuss.

MANUAL AKANJI – 6.5

Pushed through after a terrible tackle from Bruno Fernandes. Often the reserve man for City, with no one in particular to pick up.

JOHN STONE – 8.5

Progressive in its mixed role, often pops up in attacking areas. So calm and imperturbable, as if time slows down.

RODRI – 8.5

Again peerless, constantly smashing things in midfield and not a single pass wasted for the first 65 minutes.

BERNARDO SILVA – 7

In the team for extra control and kept it simple on the right side. Does a lot of unseen work and runs miles ahead of Guardiola.

KEVIN DE BRUYNE – 7.5

Guilty for forcing a little too much earlier in the game, but delivering a pointed clip for Ilkay Gundogan’s second goal.

ILKAY GUNDOGAN – 9

Stunning finish at 12 seconds – and did it again for City’s second. Stylish display anywhere in finding small boxes.

JACKET GRAY – 7

Too bad you get the penalty for handball. Generally well defended although choked by Aaron Wan-Bissaka further up front.

ERLING HAALAND – 7

Proved a real handful for Raphael Varane and Victor Lindelof, who both stayed tight all afternoon. Frustrated, his runs went unseen.

Erling Haaland - who scored 52 times for City - had a quiet afternoon by his standards
