Manchester City have reportedly taken legal action against the Premier League over the 115 allegations of alleged rule violations.
The reigning Premier League champions are believed to be contesting both the legality of the charges against them and the lawyer in charge of the case.
According to The timesthe dispute arose in connection with changes to the rules of England’s top flight, with the six-time champions arguing that they should not apply to investigations into alleged rule breaches before they were introduced.
In addition, the fact that the lawyer at the head of the Premier League’s independent legal panel is an Arsenal fan, with Murray Rosen KC – who can name himself – a self-proclaimed supporter of City’s direct title challengers.
The case brought against Man City is not expected to produce results for another two to four years, and this latest development will further delay proceedings.

However, the club made it abundantly clear that they would take all available steps to defend themselves against the allegations, claiming to have ‘irrefutable evidence’ to support their case.
There have been a number of changes to the top flight rules over the past few campaigns, and it’s still unclear which of the rule changes the challenge is targeting.
However, if the allegations of alleged infringements are proven, it could have a whole host of potential consequences for the club.
These can range from a points deduction to exclusion from the Premier League.
