Manchester City fear Bunny Shaw will miss the rest of the Women’s Super League title race after breaking her foot in Sunday’s 5-0 win over West Ham.

The club are yet to confirm Mail Sport’s information, but we understand that Shaw, who was seen on crutches and wearing a protective boot after the match, caused more damage than initially feared.

The striker went down in the final seconds of the first half and was helped off the pitch by City’s medical team and replaced by Chloe Kelly.

The 27-year-old is City’s top scorer with 21 goals in 18 games and she will be a huge defeat for Gareth Taylor’s side in the final three games of the season.

City currently sit top of the WSL, three points clear of Chelsea, who have a game in hand, and Shaw’s absence will put a huge dent in their title challenge.

Bunny Shaw may miss the rest of the season with a possible broken foot against West Ham after scoring twice in the opening 25 minutes.

City boss Gareth Taylor was initially optimistic about Shaw’s injury after the match.

“We decided not to take the risk, it was exciting to see if she would appear on the field again,” Taylor said.

‘We will have a further assessment tomorrow. She’s on crutches, which looks bad, but most players get fired in that situation.

‘We just have to assess it. If it is more serious than we expect, then we will deal with it.’

City don’t have many options to replace Shaw. Lauren Hemp can play that role, while Chloe Kelly is another option, but both players’ natural position is on the wing.

Mary Fowler is another option, alongside Poppy Pritchard, who was signed in January.

City will face Bristol City, Arsenal and Aston Villa in their final three games of the season.
