Man is charged after alleged stabbing with a paint scraper in Randwick, Sydney

A 21-year-old man has been charged after being arrested by tradies for allegedly stabbing a woman in the head and upper body with a paint scraper.

Emergency services were called to Roberts Avenue in Randwick at around 4.30pm on Wednesday after reports of a stabbing.

The 48-year-old woman was found with twelve wounds to her head and upper body and was rushed to St. Vincent’s Hospital. Her injuries are considered non-life-threatening.

Police believe the woman had an argument with a man she knew before he stabbed her with a paint scraper.

One of the men told him to “lay down and don’t move,” while another held the back of the man’s shirt.

Dressed in black sweatpants and a white T-shirt while wearing no shoes, blood could be seen on the ground next to where the man was arrested.

He was taken to the Prince of Wales Hospital under police guard.

Smoke detector tester Tom Artemjev was driving along Frenchmans Road when he witnessed the alleged attack.

“I put my handbrake on in the middle of the road, jumped out of the car, a guy in an orange construction shirt and I chased him to make sure nothing happened to him,” he said.

The group ran several hundred meters away from the apartment building where the alleged incident took place to keep up with the man before pushing him to the ground.

“I was just walking up here when I saw three boys running down and rugby tackling a man,” said witness Hannah.

“They just took him and sat with him while the police came.”
