Man charged after he entered Sunshine Coast’s Buderim Mountain State School and ‘picked up’ at least five students

A man accused of “picking up” at least five students at an elementary school has been charged.

The 44-year-old was charged with trespass and malicious disturbance following an alleged incident at Buderim Mountain State School on the Sunshine Coast, southeast Queensland.

It is believed the man physically touched at least five students by picking them up and putting them down.

According to 7NEWSparents and students reportedly held the man until police arrived.

No one was injured in the incident.

Commenting on the incident, MP for Buderim Brent Mickelberg – who has three children attending the school – said he was grateful no one was injured.

“I am aware of the incident in question at Buderim Mountain State School this morning and have spoken to staff and parents, who are to be commended for acting so quickly to protect students,” he said.

“Thank you to the police who responded quickly to the incident and arrested the man.”

The man’s intentions remain unknown, but police are believed to have had “previous contacts” with him.

In an email to parents, principal Neil Jenkins said the school was in discussions with the students involved.

The man is expected to appear in the Maroochydore Magistrates Court on April 12.
