Young man charged after allegedly running over and mutilating kangaroos in rural NSW
A young man has been charged with animal cruelty after allegedly running over and mutilating several adult and baby kangaroos.
Police were called to investigate reports of animal cruelty in September after authorities found CCTV footage of an unknown vehicle deliberately running over kangaroos in Running Stream, 60km north-west of Lithgow in NSW.
Following investigations, a 20-year-old man from Balgowlah Heights, on Sydney’s Northern Beaches, was found on October 18.
He was accused of torture; hitting and seriously injuring the animal; recklessly striking and seriously injuring an animal; and the driver do not reveal the identity of the driver/passenger as required.
Police allege that the man not only deliberately ran over the animals, but also mutilated the body of one of the kangaroos.
The 20-year-old is due to appear at Manly Court on Wednesday.
