A man claiming to be the brother of an NRL star has been arrested after allegedly stealing a car and taking police on a wild 45-minute chase through western Sydney.
Jamie Twal, 30, allegedly pointed a gun at a 55-year-old man just after 6pm on Friday before getting into the back of his white Toyota sedan on Hilltop Road, in Merrylands.
Twal allegedly demanded that the man behind the wheel drive to Villawood.
The driver, fearing for his own safety, got out of the car and left it with Twal in Parramatta, after which Twal allegedly fled in the sedan and crashed into several other vehicles.
The sedan was found abandoned shortly afterwards in Boronia Street, Ermington, with PolAir tracking Twal to a house just around the corner at around 7pm.
He was seen sitting on the gutter in handcuffs and shirtless before being taken to Westmead Hospital for treatment and mandatory tests.
Twal was later taken to Granville Police Station where he was charged with stealing a motor vehicle, theft valued at less than or equal to $2,000, failure to provide information to another driver, operating a motor vehicle while the disqualification period and the use of offensive weapons with intent to commit a criminal offence.
He appeared in court on Saturday where it was learned he had served a prison sentence for theft. The Daily Telegraph reported.
