A man has been arrested over the murder of the brother of Brighton footballer Jorelyn Carabali.

Prosecutors confirmed that the suspect had been remanded in custody pending an ongoing criminal investigation. The man’s name was Luis Felipe Ramirez Ocampo.

23-year-old Paulo Andres Carabali was shot in a club in the Colombian city of Cali in August.

The DJ was talking to his partner when he was shot six times by a person who had reportedly left the club moments earlier to look for a gun before returning.

Four of the bullets hit Carabali in the face.

Carabali joined Women’s Super League club Brighton from Brazilian side Atletico Mineiro

Cali’s chief prosecutor, Sandra Eugenia Gonzalez Mina, confirmed the arrest, saying: “The suspected murderer of the brother of our Colombian international footballer Jorelyn Carabali has been sent to prison pending a formal ongoing investigation.”

She added: “Thanks to the work of police and prosecutors, the identity of the man who allegedly killed Jorelyn’s brother has been identified.

‘The victim was shot six times, four of them in the face.

“The evidence gathered to date indicates that the alleged aggressor had an argument with the victim at the disco that night, as well as a year ago, and left the nightclub to get a firearm before returning and shooting him. ‘

She gave no further details about a possible motive for the killing.

Defender Jorelyn joined Brighton from Atletico Mineiro in Brazil in September and revealed she was on a plane when she discovered her sibling had been murdered.

She pushed for “justice” and weeks later a man named Luis Felipe Ramirez Ocampo is in custody

In August, she told Colombian media: ‘We were five minutes from take-off when I got a call from my brother’s girlfriend, which I thought was strange. In the midst of her pain she shouted, “They killed Paulo.”

‘I was so stunned by the impact that at first I didn’t understand what she was saying. She repeated it again and I threw the phone and started shouting.’

She then added, “My brother’s killer came to the area he was in looking for a fight. My brother didn’t want any trouble because he was with his girlfriend and friends. His friends calmed him down at first, but then he continued the argument.

“There was a scuffle and the other guy said he didn’t fight with his fists. He left and went to get a gun and came back and my brother’s girlfriend screamed, “Paulo, run.” He tried to save his life, but it was impossible.

“All we want now is for justice to be served.”
