Man arrested in Brighton, Melbourne after a police chase – driver was planning to mow down pedestrians
A driver has been arrested in the Melbourne suburb of Brighton after a police chase through several suburbs.
Police began the pursuit in South Yarra and chased the driver to North Road in Brighton, about 9km north, at 7.30am on Thursday.
Officers say the man behind the wheel intended to mow down pedestrians.
New Street remains closed in both directions between North Road and Martin Street while officers investigate the scene.
Motorists have been advised to avoid the area until further notice.
