A 20-year-old man was arrested after breaking into Gracie Mansion, the official residence of New York City Mayor Eric Adams, in the early morning hours of New Year’s Day.

The suspect was found shortly before 4:30 a.m. in an upstairs bathroom of the home, a stately, gated home in a park on Manhattan’s Upper East Side. He was arrested by the mayor’s security service and charged with attempted burglary.

A spokesperson for Adams said the mayor was not home at the time of the pre-dawn incident.

It was not immediately clear whether anything had been taken from the home.

The suspect, who lives a few blocks from the Upper East Side residence, will be arraigned in Manhattan court on Thursday.
