A New York City man has been arrested after setting fire to a restaurant that received his order incorrectly.

Choephel Norbu, 49, set the page in the Bengali Ittadi Garden and Grill in Queens in the early morning hours of Sunday.

Video released by the New York Fire Department shows a man, reportedly Norbu, waiting outside the restaurant in the dark.

He is dressed all in black and is holding a plastic bag with unknown contents. Seconds later, he bends down to grab a bucket next to him.

Court records obtained by the New York Post say Norbu told officers the entire incident was caused by a failed order from the Bangladeshi restaurant.

‘I was very drunk. I bought chicken biryani. They didn’t give me chicken biryani. I was crazy and threw it away,” Norbu said of his October 1 order.

He told investigators he thinks the restaurant gave him the wrong dish.

“I bought a gas canister and threw it at the store to try and burn it. I lit it and boom, it hit me,” said the man, who reportedly ran away from the scene with his shoes on fire.

Video captured by CCTV outside the restaurant shows him picking up the bucket and tossing the contents through the slots of the company’s gates.

The liquid can be seen splashing back at the man when the restaurant closed for the night and he had thrown the liquid to glass.

The man reaches into his pocket to grab something resembling a match or lighter, then bends over to provide cover from the wind.

In addition, most of the liquid had ended up on the floor, so it appears the man was trying to set fire to the most flammable part.

In his attempt, the man creates a huge flame that engulfs the ground, the front of the business, and himself.

The flame immediately ignites and even throws the man back in a big explosion, probably caused by the liquid he poured was highly flammable

The video shows Norbu being shot out of the flame and the man can immediately flee on foot.

The fire continues to burn, mostly on the ground after Norbu has left.

In the last few seconds, a bystander may storm in to try to put out the fire.

On Monday, FDNY released the video on social media, in which prosecutors share the charges against Norbu.

“Today Acting Fire Commissioner Laura Kavanagh announced the arrest of Choephel Norbu, which took place on Friday, October 14, 2022,” FDNY said Monday.

Firefighters along with arson and explosion detectives arrested 49-year-old Norbu for deliberately setting fire to a commercial food business at 73-07 37 Road in Queens on October 2, 2022. Norbu has been charged with 1 count of arson 3, 1 count of Criminal Mischief 2 and 1 count of Reckless Endangerment 2.

DailyMail.com spoke to NYPD officials who confirmed the nature of the incident made it a matter to be dealt with by the fire service.

However, according to reports, Norbu was released under surveillance just days after he was arrested.

Norbu’s was reportedly released without bail.

A police officer told The New York Post, “He’s setting fire to a store, he planned this, why is he gone the next day?”

DailyMail.com spoke to a restaurant representative who confirmed no one was inside at the time of the fire and damage was minimal.

Fatema Rahmi, a spokesman for Ittadi Garden and Grill, said she is not sure if the owners plan to press charges against the man.

Rahmi also said that most of the damage was superficial and mainly affected the windows of the restaurant.

After the incident, fire brigades were instructed to investigate the matter and immediately got to work.

Less than two weeks after the arson, Norbu was arrested without incident.

His charges of criminal mischief and arson qualified him for the strictest form of release, which a judge granted on October 15 during arraignment.

Norbu is expected to return to court in Queens on December 18.
