Horrifying moment man, 47, is mauled by pair of dogs after they ‘escaped onto the street’

This is the horrific moment a man is mauled by a pair of dogs after they allegedly escaped into the street.

The shocking footage was filmed at 5pm on Sunday when the man and a girl, 14, were attacked on Dagnam Crescent in Sheffield, South Yorkshire.

The two dogs, probably a Mastiff and a Cane Corso, probably escaped from a building on the street.

A local resident saw the dogs and put one of them on a leash. As the man tried to loosen the leash from one of the dog’s legs, the other lunged forward.

The man backed away screaming, but the dog on the leash jumped up to attack him, causing him to fall to the ground as the second dog joined in.

Two other people tried to intervene, with one person repeatedly punching the dogs.

The footage showed the man trying to flee, but he fell to the ground as another person tried to pull the dog away.

The victim, aged 47, suffered deep cuts and stab wounds across his body and was taken by ambulance to hospital, where surgery was required.

He currently remains in hospital.

A second victim, 14 years old, was slightly injured when he tried to intervene.

When the officers arrived, a dog was found tied to a lamppost. The second dog remained loose and continued to pose a danger to the public.

Officers secured the Mastiff in a garden but were unable to safely restrain it, and the decision to humanely destroy the dog at the scene was made.

A 21-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of possessing a dog that was dangerously out of control. Obstructing a police officer has since been released on police bail.

A 39-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of possessing a dangerously uncontrolled dog and has also been released on police bail.

Chief Inspector Emma Cheney said: “We continue to see people in our communities being injured by dogs, and there is increasing demand for our police to respond to and investigate incidents.

“During yesterday’s incident, we deployed several firearms and response officers to the scene for everyone’s safety.

‘The National Police Air Service was also overhead to keep an eye on the stray dog, should it have wandered further from the scene.

‘Two people have been arrested and an investigation into the circumstances will now take place.

‘The demand is not only with our army, but also with the NHS through ambulance assistance and hospital treatment.

“Please take action. If you are a dog owner, consider your circumstances and what steps you can take to increase everyone’s safety.

“You may think ‘this won’t happen to me’, but it can happen to anyone and you as the owner are the one responsible for your pet’s actions.”
