A man died after going into cardiac arrest at a New Year's party in Brazil, shortly after jumping into a waterfall area and being electrocuted.
Friends told the Federal Civil Police of Distrito that Marco Bomtempo, 33, wanted to cool down when he was shocked in the fountain after the party ended in the early hours of Monday at club Bothanic in Brasília.
“He said he was going to jump when he left the event,” João Cunha said, according to Brazilian news channel G1.
Cunha recalled how Bomtempo took off his shirt and handed it to one of the girls he attended the party with as he entered the fountain.

'As he jumped, I saw that he didn't say anything else. I ran back and jumped,” Cunha said. “I was starting to get shocked like him.”
Another person tried to get them out of the waterfall, but could only help Cunha.
The Distrito Federal Fire Department said Bomtempo suffered cardiac arrest and firefighters tried to revive him for 50 years before he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The management of Bothanic said in a statement that the location was rented out for the New Year's party on Sunday and that it was not directly involved in the event.
The club remained closed on Monday.
“The venue deeply regrets what happened, expresses deep regret for the death and expresses solidarity with the family of the young Marco Túlio Bomtepo,” Bothanic said.
Event organizers regretted Bomtempo's death and said they had provided information to investigators.
“First of all, we express all our solidarity and condolences to the family of Marco Túlio Bomtempo,” the spokesperson said. '…it should also be noted that the event quickly provided all necessary first aid.'
