Man, 25, is being charged with the alleged hit-and-run death of a 53-year-old woman as he is accused of running a red light in his Commodore

A 25-year-old man has been charged after allegedly fleeing an accident in Melbourne that left a woman fatally injured.

The 53-year-old woman died in hospital on Sunday after Friday night’s collision at Point Cook, about 27 km southwest of Melbourne.

Police said the Point Cook woman’s Volkswagen Golf collided with a Holden Commodore that ran a red light at the intersection of Dunnings Rd and Boardwalk Blvd around 11 p.m.

The other driver allegedly fled on foot while a passenger remained behind.

Officers arrested a man at a Point Cook address a short time later and charged him with negligently causing serious injury, failure to stop and render assistance and other traffic violations.

Investigators are calling on witnesses to the crash or anyone who saw the purple Holden on Dunnings Rd before the collision to come forward.
