Mama June Shannon reveals why she would NEVER try weight-loss shot Ozempic

Mama June Shannon has insisted she has no interest in using the “miraculous” weight loss injections, Ozempic and Wegovy, after she famously lost 300 pounds in 2017.

The 43-year-old reality star took fans on her weight-loss journey on the series Mama June: From Not to Hot, where she went from a size 18 to a size four.

After she underwent bariatric surgery, which involved the removal of part of her stomach as part of a sleeve gastrectomy in 2016, the TV personality has since gained weight and now weighs an average of 241 lbs.

Speaking to DailyMail.com about whether she wants to shed pounds again with the popular “quick-fix” that’s taking Hollywood by storm, Mama June said, “I don’t want to try Ozempic because honestly I’ve heard about it so much bad side effects.

“It’s using a drug that isn’t really prescribed to do that.” They use a diabetes drug to lose weight.’

The drugs, which have been used by the likes of Elon Musk, Chelsea Handler and Remi Bader, are approved to treat type II diabetes but are prescribed off-label for obesity.

They have active ingredients that mimic the action of hormones in the brain that control appetite and feelings of fullness, which can help people reduce the number of calories they consume.

2022, more than five million recipes for Ozempic, Mounjaro, Rybelsus (for another Novo drug that uses semaglutide), or Wegovy are written for weight management.

Mama June explained that using the drug for something other than what it was approved for made her feel uncomfortable as a recovering drug addict.

She continued, “No offense to people who do it, but it’s just not for me. I want to stay clean. I’m not judging anyone, but it’s not for me.’

Meanwhile, the star also took the time to dismiss claims that she gained weight from a poor diet, after fans called her out on recent posts of her eating junk food.

Discussing her body right now, she said, “I’ve only gained 100 pounds and I was actually putting that weight back on before I got sober.” I’ve literally been at 241 pounds for almost two years, God actually wants me to be where I am today.

“Eventually on your weight loss journey, you kind of hit a plateau and I reached a plateau at 241. I don’t drink soda, I don’t drink tea, I don’t snack like I used to and stuff. I’m not moving on the scales now, front or back.’

Indeed, the reality star has been open about her weight gain as she settled into sobriety in February 2020 after completing a stint in rehab.

After showing off her weight journey in front of the TV cameras for five seasons of Mama June: From Hot to Not, the star likes to keep her fans updated on her weight and health journey.

Concerns about her physical well-being have changed in recent months after the star was hospitalized in 2022 for severe headaches and dizziness.

Mama June, who is currently more than three years sober, has been suffering from unknown health issues ever since.

After running multiple tests and scans on her, no medical professionals have been able to diagnose her.

The Road to Redemption star claimed that part of the reason why doctors have yet to discover the cause of the spent was due to the fact that she was seemingly convicted of her past substance abuse issues.

“We still don’t have answers,” June said. “I still get the judgment from the doctors because when they look at me I feel like I’m being judged for my past issues.

“I hate that the doctors look at someone who’s been through something in their life, like an addiction, and think someone can’t change.”

She continued, “I am more than three years straight and clean. But if I’m honest and tell people that, the doctor just looks at you like you have a serious illness and I don’t.

“I just want the answers and I’m not getting them. I’m trying to get in to see the best doctors I know in Georgia, but it’s taking a while.’

Fans will have the chance to experience the latest dramatic moments in the life of the star and her family in the new season of Mama June: Family Crisis.
