When the Swedish-born actress isn’t out and about showing off new looks, she’s working with On Our Sleeves, an organization that provides free resources to raise awareness for children struggling with mental health issues.
The mother of one appeared on Good morning America to represent her case last May.
She thought back to her childhood, when both her mother and brother suffered from depression, and wished she had been able to understand the condition better at the time.
And one of her goals is to try to “destigmatize” the stigma around mental health and the shame surrounding it.
“It’s beautiful because you know that children don’t wear their feelings on their sleeve and they don’t have words for them,” she explained about the organization.
“They have all the tools and resources at their disposal, so if you don’t know how to talk to your kids, we don’t know how to have difficult conversations because we’re not always the best mentors.”
When asked how she gets her own son, Sebastian Zincone, 11, to talk openly about his feelings, she said finding “open moments” works best.

When asked how she gets her own son, Sebastian Zincone, 11, to open up about his feelings, she said finding “open moments” works best; Sebastian, Malin, a guest and Jack Donelly seen in March
She said, “I’ve noticed that with boys, there’s this thing where men are better at speaking when they’re standing shoulder to shoulder, and women are better at speaking when they’re looking each other in the eye.”
“So with young boys…bedtime is a really nice time for me and my son because the lights are out and there’s no shame around it. It’s just an open time.”
She gave her advice to other parents, saying, “Everyone has their own time. And also give your child the choice of, ‘Hey, do you want to talk about this? And if not now, when is a good time for you.'”

‘So by giving them that power and authority over themselves, but I think it’s important to figure out what needs to be talked about and whether you need help with that. [On Our Sleeves] “is a great place to start and gather your resources,” she concluded.
Malin has a pre-teen son with her ex-husband, Italian musician Roberto Zincone, whom she divorced in 2013 after nearly six years of marriage.
She has since moved on with her life and married 36-year-old British actor Jack Donnelly, best known for his role in the BBC series Atlantis, in a Mexican ceremony in December 2018.
