Disney Plus is known for its fair share of revivals, but something feels so at home here. Malcolm in the middle – a beloved sitcom that ran for seven seasons will return as a four-episode arc that will stream on Disney Plus, as confirmed by Variety.
And here’s even better news, especially if you’re eager to see the return of your favorite dysfunctional family. Frankie Muniz, Bryan Cranston and Jane Kaczmarek are all set to return to their respective roles, and original series creator Linwood Boomer is back on board for the revival.
You wouldn’t want a revival without the iconic cast, right? The cast also gets excited in a teaser video Frankie Muniz posted to Instagram and Threads, which started with the iconic “Malcolm, Malcolm, Malcom!” and Muniz notes that he’s been waiting 18 years to find out “where Malcolm and his family are now.”

In a statement, Ayo Davis, president of Disney Branded Television, said: “Malcolm in the middle is a historical sitcom that captured the essence of family life with humor, heart and relatability. The hilarious and heartfelt portrayal of a lovingly chaotic family resonated with audiences of all ages, and we are so excited to welcome back the original cast to bring that magic back to life. With Linwood Boomer and the creative team at the helm, these new episodes will have all the humor, jokes and mayhem that fans have loved – along with a few surprises that remind us why this show is so timeless.
Clearly, the team behind the revival – or reboot – is pretty excited to welcome back the iconic show, and its teased family reunion. Variety reports the official logline as follows: “Malcolm (Muniz) and his daughter are drawn into the family chaos when Hal (Cranston) and Lois (Kaczmarek) demand his presence for their 40th wedding anniversary.”
It is indeed a time jump, but like other revivals, this should hit the right notes and provide a fun, meaningful reunion to reunite all the characters. Furthermore, this seems more in line with what the creator is looking for and not under pressure from the studio to produce a full season. It’s the story that Boomer and co. hope to tell.
No release date has been set yet, but when the Malcolm in the middle revival is ready, it’s streaming on Disney Plus. Of course, if you’d like to stream some other titles, check out our favorite of the newcomers to Disney Plus here.
