CareClinics, a private clinic group in Malaysia, has signed an agreement with HIMSS to drive digital transformation.
Founded in 2003, the company operates a network of over 100 primary care clinics across the country.
Under the Memorandum of Understanding, CareClinics will leverage the benefits of HIMSS digital capacity and maturity frameworks to build a digital health ecosystem that “supports patient-centric care, predictive population health and a proactive approach to health and wellbeing for the Malaysian population.”
CareClinics will also gain access to HIMSS’s global network of experts and specialists to support the group in improving the adoption of digital technologies.
Additionally, CareClinics will collaborate with HIMSS on education and workforce development initiatives, such as curated courses and professional certifications, to enhance the digital health capacity and competency of its workforce.
THE BIGGER TREND
The Malaysian Ministry of Health is currently pushing for healthcare system reforms through digital transformation. A key initiative is the implementation of a national EMR system to realize the vision of “one person, one record.”
The government piloted the national EMR project in 2021, which is expected to be completed next year. A full rollout of the national EMR system is planned for 2026.
Last year in January, the Malaysia Healthcare Travel Council, which is responsible for promoting medical tourism in the country, has partnered with HIMSS to promote the digital transformation of hospitals and healthcare facilities across the country.
ON THE RECORD
“The CareClinics and HIMSS partnership represents an exciting leap forward in healthcare transformation, particularly in the often overlooked area of primary care. By integrating global standards from the beginning of our EMR development, we aim to set a benchmark for digital health worldwide. This collaboration will amplify data-driven, promotional and preventive care, enabling us to predict patient needs and deliver safer, higher-quality care. Our shared vision is to build a future where primary care is proactive, personalized and integral to global health advancement. Together, we are not just improving primary care – we are redesigning it,” said CareClinics CEO Dr. Thirunavukarasu Rajoo.
“We are honored to partner with CareClinics in their digital transformation journey. We see that Malaysia has made significant strides in digitizing its healthcare sector in recent years, and CareClinics is poised to become a model for healthcare organizations in the country. By optimizing the use of technologies to improve processes and outcomes, CareClinics will be able to meaningfully impact the health of its approximately two million patients annually,” said Simon Lin, Managing Director, APAC and VP at HIMSS.
